Jacquelyn Grant is a pioneering scholar and a visionary woman of faith. She is the founder and director of The Office of Black Women in Church and Society.
Dr. Grant is the Fuller Callaway Professor of Systematic Theology. She was the first Black woman in the United State to receive the Ph.D. in Systematic Theology. While a student of renowned scholar Dr. James Cone, Grant began to formulate the ideas that would lay the foundation for Womanist Theology. She and former schoolmates, Dr. Katie Cannon and Dr. Delores Williams are considered the “mothers of womanist theology.”
Dr. Grant has traveled to teach and preach throughout the world including Ghana, South Africa and Kenya in Africa, as well as in countries in Australia, Asia, India, Central America, South America, and Europe.
Dr. Grant has mentored many women and men. Her visionary spirit, love of people and concern for the plight of women led to the creation of The Office of Black Women in Church and Society in 1981 at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA.
