Faith and Faustian Bargains: Compromise, Complicity, and Courage in Leadership
Race and religion are among the best predictors of how Americans choose a president. Race and religion are also bases for political compromises that call into question our moral credibility on issues ranging from voting rights to police brutality.
 This election day is culminating a battle which has been waged between an evil system and masses of “the disinherited.”  We are not sure of what the outcome will be.
As the midterm elections rapidly approach, it is imperative that we are all registered to vote and have plans to mobilize voters to the polls.
Dr. Cornel West is correct, “we are in the spiritual eclipse of decency, honesty and integrity” leaving our nation in the chaotic shadows of emboldened racism, ugly xenophobia, predatory patriarchy and unvarnished greed.”
Dr. Randal Jelks talked about the role of African American ministers in politics.
We must be careful not to trade in our prophetic voices for presidential roundtables and advisory boards that only seek to co-opt our prophetic rhetoric for political power.
